Bruce Rauner Decimated Services for People With Disabilities

Bruce Rauner has continuously proven he will not prioritize the needs of Illinoisans with disabilities and decimated the social services that give them the tools they need to succeed. Rauner’s 736-day budget crisis slashed and delayed funding to community-based care and home health workers that work to help people with disabilities live independent lives in their communities.

  • Rauner fought to eliminate pay increases for homecare workers who provide critical support to people with disabilities.
  • Rauner proposed cutting funding to “numerous disability-related programs.”
  • Even with a budget, Rauner doubled down on his cuts to people with disabilities with an $86 million cut to the Illinois Department of Transportation, including cuts for para-transit services for the Regional Transportation Authority.
  • In 2017, Rauner vetoed a bill allowing homecare providers to work overtime when providing critical community-based care to Illinoisans with disabilities.
  • Rauner fought to slash access to home care services, restricting access for seniors and people with disabilities.
