I’m a Veteran, a mom, and the leader of a non-profit that gives families the tools they need to build better lives. I was called up from the Army reserves right after 9/11 to serve this country. Veterans have put our lives on the line to fight for the ideals we value most, but for the last three years Bruce Rauner has failed us.
Under Bruce Rauner, people I know and work with every day have struggled to find the care they need. For Veterans like me, routine medical services are often inadequate and few and far between. Finding mental health care services is extremely difficult. The VA center in Peoria is overbooked and hard to get into and the next closest facility in Danville is almost 2 hours away. For many, finding care in downstate Illinois is hard because community hospitals and clinics have struggled during Rauner’s budget crisis.
I met with JB at a Veteran’s roundtable in Peoria, and he spent time listening to us. I think that’s important for someone who wants to be a public servant. JB will be a leader we can trust to care for our Veterans because he listens to us, cares about us, and truly understands what we’ve done for this country.
