I raised my daughter Ciara in Illinois and in 2016, she graduated from Edwardsville High School. Ciara had almost a 4.0 GPA and did really well on the ACT, so she was in good shape to get into a good college. I really wanted her to stay in Illinois, and she applied to a few state schools—Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois University.
Unfortunately, higher education in Illinois is in such bad shape under Bruce Rauner that no Illinois schools offered her a financial package that would have made it affordable for her to stay in Illinois. She ended up taking a full tuition scholarship at a school in Missouri, and she’s spending her summers there as well.
She's studying to be a doctor and talks about coming back to Illinois for medical school, but she’s set roots down Missouri. I’m worried she’s never going to come home. There are good universities here and I know that JB will improve education in this state. I don’t want other moms worrying about sending their children out of state to school, like I have.
