I’m from Marion originally, but I live in Goreville now and I’ve been a construction laborer with Local 773 for about 30 years. My dad, my mom, my uncle, my brother – they’re all construction laborers.

For us, Right to Work sounds like Right to Work for less money. If Bruce Rauner gets his way, that means we’re not going to be paid the same wages and we’re not going to receive the same benefits. Money will go to out of state contractors for cheaper labor, which means money leaving the state because those contractors don’t spend money at local businesses like we do. Rauner is pushing for this instead of running the state. His budget crisis and not coming up with a budget meant less money for infrastructure and roadwork. We missed weeks in the summer when we’re supposed to be out there working and that hurt us.

I want to see legislation to make unions stronger. We should secure prevailing wage and put money in infrastructure, roads, and bridges because they’re falling apart. I’m supporting JB because I know he will do that. I’ve met JB a bunch of times. He’s a down to earth guy who really cares about us. He has ideas and plans to help us and he will work with us instead of working against us.
