I’ve spent my life educating the next generation of students in Central Illinois. I’m from a small town in between Bloomington and Kankakee that, like many rural communities, lacks a lot of advanced healthcare services. My husband and I are getting older, and our healthcare needs are increasing, but because of the lack of advanced treatment centers we might not be able to stay in our hometown for much longer.
My husband has Alzheimer’s, PTSD, and several other medical conditions. Those all require special care and as things progress and we get older, our town won’t have the facilities needed to treat us. It’s not an unsolvable issue. We can invest in downstate healthcare centers to ensure that specialists can be accessed by these rural towns. We can make sure that there are major hospitals that can treat serious illnesses and chronic diseases near our communities. But Bruce Rauner isn’t doing any of that. He’s jeopardized healthcare for so many, especially downstate. Bruce Rauner likes to talk a big game about downstate, but it’s clear he’s out of touch with what we really need.
JB Pritzker gets it. He understands our needs and how to invest in community health centers to ensure that we have the access to the care we need in rural communities. I’ve been a lifelong Republican — but Bruce Rauner has failed. I know that JB Pritzker will care for us and put this state on a better path.
