I served my country for six years in the Army as a paratrooper, including three combat tours, and when I came home from my service, I was able to start a career. Now, I work with the Illinois Department of Corrections and I serve as a volunteer firefighter. Illinois has historically been one of the best states for Veterans, but we’ve been falling short of our obligation to our state’s heroes.
Bruce Rauner has diminished a lot of the programs that help our Veterans when they come home. He’s failed to continue Illinois’ proud tradition of being one of the most Veteran friendly states in the nation, particularly in his failure to protect the 13 Veterans and their spouses who died from repeated Legionnaires outbreaks at Quincy Veteran’s Home. He’s dropped the ball on reaching out to help Veterans access the services available to them, while at the same time cutting those services. Now, instead of helping our state’s heroes, we’re driving them out of our state as they look to find a job and better themselves elsewhere. Instead of giving our Veterans the tools to succeed, Rauner is focused on attacking unions and forcing his anti-worker agenda on Illinois.
I support JB Pritzker for governor because I believe he is a true public servant. JB has made it his life’s goal to lift up those who don’t always have an opportunity to lift themselves up. That’s why he’s fought for early childhood education, that’s why I think he’ll make Veterans a top priority as governor. He has a real plan and he’s going to bring people together to fix our state’s finances and make our state a place that’s more welcoming and livable for everyone. JB stands for all of us coming together, moving forward, and progressing as Illinoisans and I’m proud to support him.
