I was born and raised here in Illinois. I grew up on a family farm, enlisted in the Marine Corps, served for 8 years, then became a union worker at John Deere in the Quad Cities. I retired and enjoy a decent living because of my union pension. Now I spend most of my time advocating for Veterans and my community.
Illinois is lucky to have a large network of Veterans homes across our state. Unfortunately, Bruce Rauner has not prioritized our needs and has decimated the tools that Veterans and their families rely on to build better lives. So many Veterans lost access to the critical services they need to survive, including mental health services, substance abuse prevention, and homelessness prevention. I saw the consequences first hand as the people I help and care for daily were failed by this reckless governor. Rauner’s inability to take charge and stand up for those who served our country is a shame.
I’m supporting JB because I’ve had the pleasure of meeting with him to discuss the issues Veterans like me face. I was impressed by his desire to listen to us and really engage with our issues and take them to heart. I’ve been around a lot of politicians in my time, but JB truly cares. He cares about the things that matter to me. He cares about raising the minimum wage and protecting our unions. He cares that Veterans, seniors, and all Illinoisans have a chance to achieve their full potential. That’s why it’s essential we elect JB this fall.
