For 31 years I was a union laborer at Navistar in Melrose Park. Because of my union, I was able to earn a respectable income and live a middle-class lifestyle. I retired after many years of service and earned a decent retirement. But over time, cost of living increased, my income stayed the same, and I eventually qualified for state aid that helped me pay my home’s utility bills. Then Bruce Rauner’s budget crisis came.
During the crisis, funding for critical services that help seniors like me pay our bills was cut off. I couldn’t afford most of my payments. There’s a lot of seniors on this program that suffered at the hands of Bruce Rauner. Time and again, those hit hardest by this politically driven budget crisis have been seniors and low-income families.
This election, I’m not sitting on the sidelines. I’ve experienced Bruce Rauner’s failures firsthand, and four more years would be a disaster. I’ll be supporting JB Pritzker because I have never met a candidate as accessible, as personal, and as passionate as JB Pritzker. He truly cares about people like me and has my interests at heart. He cares about seniors, workers, and people of lower incomes. Bruce Rauner has done absolutely nothing to help me or people like me. He’s failed, and it’s time for him to go and for us to have a leader like JB Pritzker in Springfield.
