I served in the United States Marine Corps and currently work for Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 25 in Rock Island. I work with contractors to find jobs for union members, including on a variety of projects at the Quincy Veterans’ Home. We completed a number of projects starting in the fall of 2015, and at one point there were talks of further improvements at Quincy.
We were able to update some pipes at Quincy, but there was a lot of waiting and stalling on the projects that happened at the risk of the Veterans that live in the facility. Quincy has became a breeding ground for Legionnaires' disease. Even though the work we had completed was not enough to fix the issue, additional improvement plans were placed on the back burner. Apparently it was not important enough for the governor to finish these projects, so he waited until Legionnaires' disease appeared at the facility again. Those delays had fatal consequences.
Rauner has been playing the blame game and saying that Legionnaires' is everyone else's fault, but it's up to him to fix the problem. It doesn't seem like he cares about our Veterans, and now that it's an election year, he's putting the issue back in the limelight to make himself look good. I support JB because he is a genuine and honest individual who truly wants to help this state. He sat and listened to me and other Veterans at a roundtable, and I could tell that he cares. JB will protect our Veterans, not neglect them, like Rauner did. Rauner is a Carhartt-wearing poser. I don't know who he's riding with, but he's not riding with me.
